IUKL WON 4 AWARDS IN THE 26TH ARCHITECTURAL WORKSHOP (TIANG SERI) AT UITM SERI ISKANDAR

Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL) is highly delighted to bring home 4 awards in the 26th Architectural Workshop (Tiang Seri) at UITM Seri Iskandar, Perak. The event supported by Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM), was held from 29th October to 2nd November 2014. This event involves 9 institutions among architecture schools from IPTA, IPTS and 2 invitational institutions from Indonesia and Brunei.

A total of 30 participants and 60 observers from IUKL’s Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment (FABE) attended this event. IUKL team was led by Ahmad Shahrul Nizam Ahmad Kamal, a second year student from the Bachelor of Science (Architectural Studies) program, and accompanied by 2 lecturers. With the tagline ‘JIWA – Bina Berseni, Seni Berjiwa’, they came home with the Best Performance Award, the Best Photography Award, the Best Installation Award and the Best Video Award.

Upon receiving the awards, the team leader, Ahmad Shahrul Nizam explained that the tagline used by them ‘JIWA – Bina Berseni, Seni Berjiwa’ was to bring awareness to all architecture students on the soul and art of building.

“We want to express our thoughts on the art of building because what we see now is that buildings built have no ‘soul’ or in Malay we call it ‘jiwa’. A building is just a building unless you build it with soul.”

Talking about the workshop itself, Ahmad Shahrul Nizam said that they were given activities and they have to compete. The activity is given with a theme and they will have to relate the theme to architecture. The activities include the four from which they won; performance, photography, installation, video, and many more.

“The encouragement from the lecturers and the university is what drives us to display our talents and creativity. This annual workshop is fun and exciting and I look forward to join more of them in the coming future, with fresh ideas,” he added.
