Miri – 17 September 2014 – Secondary school students attending the eighth Curtin Sarawak Open Day this Saturday at the campus of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) will have a truly educational experience. Several hundred students from local secondary schools are expected to attend at the invitation of the university, as well as others attending with their family members.
Following registration upon arrival at the campus at 9.00 am, the students will be given a briefing on various aspects of the university by members of its marketing team.
Science stream students will then attend a briefing by representatives of the School of Engineering and Science, as well as participate in an engineering-related activity called ‘Spaghetti Marshmallow’. Arts steam students, meanwhile, will be hosted by the School of Business and participate in a business-related activity called ‘Airplane Manufacturing’.
The students will participate in the two activities in groups of between 5 and 6 persons. Cash prizes of RM800, RM400 and RM200 will be awarded to the winning three teams.
Thereafter, the students will be entertained to lunch, and will continue the day’s programme with a motivational talk by Jasly Kong, a certified life coach, at 1.30 pm in the Harry Perkins Lecture Theatre, and a team-building activity at 3.00 pm.
Before departing the campus, they will tour the Curtin Sarawak Open Day showcases and booths, including the Curtin Young Associates (CYA) and Future Students booths, which should be of special interest to them.
All students interested in pursuing tertiary studies at Curtin Sarawak are invited to visit the Future Students Booth located on the ground floor of the John Curtin Building (Heron 1). There, they will receive education counselling and career and personality tests will be conducted throughout the day. Student recruitment staff will be available to handle enquiries about courses, scholarships, financial aid and enrolment.
Furthermore, they can participate in a lucky draw offering an iPad Mini and other attractive prizes, as well as an Instagram competition requiring them to take photos of themselves at the Future Students Booth and post them with a relevant hashtag on Instagram. More details can be obtained at the Future Students Booth on the day.
The Curtin Sarawak Open Day is the grandest and most anticipated annual event at the Curtin Sarawak campus and an occasion for the university to showcase its facilities, academic programmes and vibrant campus life amidst much fun and festivity. This year’s event is of special significance as it mark’s Curtin Sarawak’s fifteenth year anniversary and there will be much celebration of its achievements since its establishment as the first international campus of Curtin University in 1999. The event will be open from 10 am to 5.00 pm.
