IUMW City Campus was abuzz with excitement as graduates and their guests shared their joy during the International University of Malaya Wales Convocation Ceremony on 20 November 2016. The graduation ceremony saw a total of 87 students completing their degrees.

The ceremony was officiated by IUMW’s Chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Annuar Bin Zaini. Present at the Convocation Ceremony were Professor Dr. Hamzah A. Rahman, President/CEO of International University of Malaya-Wales, Tan Sri Professor Dr. Mohd Amin Jalaludin, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malaya, Professor Medwin Hughes, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales, Professor Simon Haslett, Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and Dr. Stuart J. Robb, Assistant Registrar at the University of Wales.

Professor Medwin Hughes was pleased with the students’ achievements and expressed his high regards for IUMW as a private learning institution. He commended on the efforts that were put in by the IUMW students, especially for those who received the Dual Award. It required a lot of hard work and determination to earn the degree from University of Wales since Malaysian students were not used to the UK Education System.

Mr. Stephen Griffiths, the Vice President of IUMW explains that the UK educational system is arguably the best possible approach as it not only provides students with theory, but hands-on experience required today. He emphasised that “The IUMW educational approach is second to none, and we are proud to be associated with the University of Wales and University of Malaya, and that IUMW stands committed in further enhancing the experience through its Alumni all over the world…”

The International University of Malaya-Wales was established from the unique partnership between University of Malaya and the University of Wales, UK. Both these parent universities of IUMW have more than 200 years of combined academic experience. International University of Malaya-Wales has further strengthened the worth and international recognition of its homegrown programmes through an academic arrangement with the University of Wales, one of United Kingdom’s leading universities. Under the arrangement, students who are interested in pursuing Dual Awards with University of Wales at IUMW will also receive a separate degree certificate issued by University of Wales, apart from their IUMW degree certificates.

IUMW believes that the higher-education industry in Malaysia has a strategic role to play in developing sustainable communities locally and at the international level. IUMW is aligning itself to the Ministry of Higher Education’s aspiration to instil an entrepreneurial mindset throughout Malaysia’s higher-education system and produces graduates with a drive to create jobs rather than to seek jobs. IUMW vision is to be an exemplary and innovative international higher-education institution renowned for its graduates who are required to meet global demands. To achieve this end, IUMW must be bold and dynamic in their educational approach.

IUMW has developed a series of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes that focus on outcomes over inputs and to pursue technologies and innovations that address students’ needs and enable greater personalization of the learning experience. Students can take part in the Student Exchange Programme where IUMW students can study one semester in the University of Wales or University of Malaya. This programme was introduced to inspire students to be innovative and be equipped with skills customized towards the competitive environment. IUMW is proud to celebrate the 2nd convocation ceremony. A convocation ceremony is a milestone – one of life’s landmark occasions, a time when graduates, family members, friends, and lecturers gather to celebrate the past and future. This event provides parents, family and friends the opportunity to celebrate significant contribution and success of our first batch of graduates.
